When you're driving a new Hyundai Santa Fe or Hyundai Tucson, there are a lot of great benefits that you can enjoy. Among those are handsome exterior styling, plenty of space in the cabin and a car or SUV that's backed by America's best warranty. But another benefit that we know you’ll enjoy is the chance to get easy access to Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™. Here are some basics about how to make that connection, starting with an Android phone.
Android Step #1: Disconnect Bluetooth devices
Turn on your Hyundai model, go to the multimedia screen and select the phone option in the menu. Once you make that selection, the pairing process will begin automatically. If the screen shows that other devices have been connected in the past, then you can select the “Add New” option. Rest assured that the default name will be the correct name of your Hyundai vehicle.
Android Step #2: Search for a new device
Open your phone and go to the Bluetooth setting on your phone and click on “Search for a new device.” Authorize the registration on your Android phone and enter the passkey if that's required. A message may pop up asking for the contacts and call history on your device. You can choose to allow this or deny it, but to listen to the messaging on your Hyundai vehicle you will need to allow it. And be sure the “Message Box Check-In” box is selected: That step is next.
Android Step #3: Select the “Message Box Check-In”
To do that, reach over to the lower right corner of the screen and tap on the “Setup” icon. Then select “Device Connections” and then “Message Settings.” Once you've gone through those steps, your Bluetooth connection from your Android device to your Hyundai vehicle will be complete and you are ready to use your device.
Apple iPhone Step #1: Get charged up and plugged in
First make sure your Apple device is all charged up and that it's properly plugged in. You can also get an adapter that turns your iPhone into a wireless connection or Bluetooth, or your Hyundai model might be a higher trim that includes wireless smartphone connections.
Apple iPhone Step #2: Make sure you’re connected
Plug in to the USB port if you're not connecting wirelessly. Once you get plugged in, it will ask you if you want to connect to a new device and you tap on “Connect.” Then your iPhone will ask if you want to allow Apple CarPlay® with your iPhone and of course you select “Yes.” Now you're connected and you’re hands free.
Apple iPhone step #3: Start using your device
The good news about this kind of setup is that you don't have to touch your iPhone, you can just use the voice command like you normally would. For example, you can say “Siri, I need directions to this hospital…” Or “Siri, I need directions to this gas station…” or “Tell me directions to this address…” Siri will go to work while you keep your hands on the steering wheel and your eyes on the road. You also have safe, hands-free access to your favorite music and audio applications like Spotify.
